USENIX Student Grant Program
The USENIX student grant program provides stipends to cover registration fees and assist with travel and accommodation expenses for full-time students attending accredited institutions who wish to attend USENIX conferences and workshops.
Grant applications become available on our Web site about 34 months before the conference, with an application deadline set at approximately 78 weeks before the event. Notifications of awards are sent about 2 weeks after the deadline. Carefully consider which conference is most relevant to your research: applicants can be awarded only one grant each year.
Please read the rest of this page carefully; it contains important information regarding materials and deadlines.
Current and Upcoming Grant Opportunities
Quick Reference for Applicants
- Read our Full Guidelines and Hints page thoroughly, particularly if you are a first-time applicant.
- Complete the online grant application form. Your Supporting Statement is the most important part of your application: it should be a well-written essay that outlines your current reseach, studies, or curriculum related to the conference topics, tells us why attending the event will be beneficial to you, states your class level, names your advisors/mentors, and details any relevant experience. Do not include links to your school research pages or resume.
- Do not register for the conference, even if you are an author or a presenter, until you hear whether you have been granted an award. If you receive a grant, we will send you specific registration instructions. If you do not receive a grant, you can then register using the standard online registration form. Student registration fees do not increase after the Early Bird deadline.
- Do make your hotel and travel reservations early.
- If student tutorial rates are available for the event (currently, USENIX Annual Technical Conference, USENIX Security Symposium, and LISA), please contact the Conference Department, [email protected], for instructions on how to register for tutorials. You should reserve your tutorial spaces as soon as possible after registration opens, and you may do this without registering for the conference. On your grant application form, please list the student tutorial rate for tutorial sessions.
- Send your student ID: Either scan it electronically and link it to your application, or fax it to 510-548-5738. Generic department or research Web site links are NOT acceptablewe must see an actual scan of your current student ID. Please include the conference name and the words "grant application" on your fax.
- All materials must arrive at USENIX, attention Conference Department, on or before the application deadline. Late applications and materials will not be considered.
Note: Grants do not apply to membership dues or CEU credits. Students may
join USENIX for a low rate. For more information, please see our Student Membership page.
If you have any questions or would like further information, please contact the USENIX Conference Department, [email protected] or (510) 528-8649.
