Advertising FAQs
For 27 years the volunteers and computer professionals at USENIX and SAGE
have worked toward the advancement of the computer technology industry, by
consistently providing topic-specific forums for informative and relevant
technical dialog. USENIX and SAGE members are highly regarded academics,
engineers, systems administrators, developers and students, and therefore
integral to the development of our internationally renowned community. The
best way to reach our members is to earn their respect as part of this
community effort.
As a not-for-profit organization, we have very defined policies regarding
member privacy, the use of our mailing lists and advertising opportunities.
The best way to reach our members is to become a part of this community.
What opportunities are available?
- Mailing List Rental
USENIX maintains a database of members and non-members in a general file as
well as selects according to membership classification and conference
attendance. All members are included in the mailing lists unless otherwise
requested. Privacy is a pressing issue with our members and our policies
reflect their wants and needs. USENIX does not provide specialized queries
within our database. Lists are drawn primarily from conference attendance.
Use of the USENIX mailing list is restricted to Association Supporting
Members and to select partners. Approved partners and members must provide
a sample of the mail piece and use a bonded, third party mail house. All
mailing lists are intended for a single use only. All information in USENIX
mailing lists is the property of the USENIX Association. Retention and
reuse of mailing list information is considered a violation of USENIX
policies.
- Advertising in ;login:
;login: is a members-only magazine published by the USENIX Association.
Written and edited by USENIX members, ;login: is a respected source of
technical information and news.
Advertising in ;login: is primarily available to supporting members and selected
partners of USENIX and SAGE. See our Advertising in ;login:

- Advertising in conference directories
USENIX conferences have earned the reputation for reaching the cream of the
technical industry through excellent programs, speakers, and organization.
If you are looking to meet and greet our membership, participating in our
conferences is the key.
Each conference attendee receives a program directory of the speakers,
sessions, exhibitors, and events. Advertising in this directory gives you a
direct link to highly technical professionals in top companies. Advertising
is a benefit for conference exhibitors and selected USENIX partners.
- Web Buttons and Text Links
Conference Exhibitors will be asked to send a logo and linking URL for the
exhibition pages of the conference in which they are participating.
Supporting members of USENIX and SAGE are also entitled to a text link from
our Supporting Members pages. Sponsors of the SAGE Certification program
will be able to include their logos on the Certification pages.
How do we get approved for advertising and mailing list rental?
- Become a USENIX Supporting Member
As part of their benefits, a supporting member is allowed a one-time rental
of a specific mailing list and one full-page ad in ;login. See our
membership web page for details.
- Participate in a USENIX Conference
Participating as an exhibitor at one of our conferences is a way to reach
your target audience face to face. Exhibitor benefits include directory
advertising, web logo/links, inclusion in exhibition and conference
advertising, options for hosting special onsite events (with or without
givaways) as well as numerous formal and informal networking opprotunities.

- Partner with USENIX and SAGE
Customized reciprocal trades and exchanges are part of USENIX's
relationship with many organizations. Partnerships provide ideal tools for reaching your specific audiences and interest groups.
USENIX and SAGE projects and conferences not only have a reputation for
spanning a wide range of topics without sacrificing high quality technical
content, but also for providing the very best in food and accommodation.

What about Email and E-Newsletters?
- USENIX and SAGE retain exclusive rights to the use of Email based
communication with our members. We do not offer Emails for rent or
trade, nor do we send Email announcements to our members for advertising
purposes.
