Program Chair, LISA '99

Since you are reading ;login:, you are probably well aware of the LISA conferences — but you might enjoy this reminder anyway. I am very excited about the program for LISA '99 (November 7-12 in Seattle). As in past years, LISA '99 includes a three-day tutorial program and three days of technical sessions with multiple tracks: refereed papers, invited talks, the "practicum" track, and "guru is in" sessions. The technical program features a wide variety of interesting and timely papers and talks on all aspects of modern systems administration.

I am particularly excited about the expanded LISA workshop series. New this year is an important workshop on university-level systems administration education, co-chaired by John Sechrest and David Kuncicky. Through this workshop educators and senior system administrators can share ideas, techniques, and experiences for developing and teaching systems administration courses at the university level.

Last year's "Global LISA" workshop (chaired by Joel Avery) has been retitled "GigaLISA," focusing on technical issues for very large sites. The Advanced Topics Workshop (chaired by Adam Moskowitz) completes the workshop series, focusing on the most difficult problems facing system administrators today.

Last year, many of the tutorials sold out — so be sure to register early. Complete program and registration information is on the Web at <http://www.usenix.org/events/lisa99>.
